River Mixed Breed (Medium) Senior Female in Shelburne, Vermont

My story

 IN VERMONT

Meet River (of River and Lexie)! Here is her video in NC:

https://youtu.be/Or8fJx_RoG0

River is 13 years old (approx. DOB tbd), female, 41 lbs., vetted, is or will be spayed, and micro-chipped. River and Lexie were turned into the shelter by a person who was living out of their car.

She is good with other dogs, maybe cats (no prey drive seen), good with kids (important of course to educate kids about giving older dogs their space), has low-medium energy, and is reserved but loves to be next to people especially those she trusts. River would love to be with another dog and prefers not to be left alone in her golden years. She is potty trained, non destructive, good in the house, and does fine on leash but does not appear to know or understand leashed walking. River has no concerning behavior. Her ideal home with be in a calm area, with another dog, and little alone time. A single level home would be ideal as she doesn't navigate stairs well. She loves to go for car rides and loves to cuddle; she adjusted very well to her foster home in NC. She opens up some as she becomes more comfortable but is clearly an aging girl who desires love. River has a leg wound which has begun healing and missing hair on back portion of body but regrowth has begun. She takes treats gently! Stay tuned for more information as River is a new rescue!

Disclosure:

Breed labels are often incorrect: we rarely know the genetic lineage of the dogs we rescue.  Many shelters and rescues specify breeds based on appearance; however, research has shown that less than 2% of a dog’s DNA determines appearance!

Passion 4 Paws does not practice the use of labels pertaining to compatibility with others or dog breed.  Labels such as “dog friendly” and “child friendly” should be used with caution as they often over-simplify the personalities and behavior of dogs.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt River, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
